The Blue Dog Caucus, 26 moderate Democrat members of the U.S. House of Representatives have endorsed the NAT GAS Act (H.R. 1380) which is a centerpiece of the Pickens Plan. According to a press release by Rep. Dan Boren (D-Ok),

“The legislation, which has broad bipartisan support, would pave the way for consumers to change how they power their vehicles by encouraging private investment in natural gas refueling stations and by providing incentives for the production and purchase of natural gas vehicles.”

Rep. Jim Matheson (D-Ut), chair of the caucus’ energy task force, said that if we increase the use of domestic natural gas as a transportation fuel “consumers will have less pain at the pump, America will become less dependent on foreign oil and will see more energy jobs and a cleaner environment.”

Boren said, “By fully utilizing America’s vast natural gas resources, we have a real opportunity to make a sweeping impact on our nation’s economic future.”

Boone Pickens said:

“The formal endorsement of the NAT GAS Act (H.R. 1380) by the influential House Blue Dog Coalition is a major milestone in getting this important legislation passed by Congress and signed into law by the President. The Blue Dog endorsement is a rare and important signal of support from an influential group of lawmakers. By signaling the coalition’s full support for the NAT GAS Act, these forward thinking Democrats have put the best interests of America front and center in our fight to reduce our dependence on OPEC oil. I want to praise their leadership and I urge the full House of Representatives to take up the NAT GAS Act as soon as possible.”
