T. Boone Pickens appeared on Fox News Channel’s Neil Cavuto program on Saturday morning to discuss the potential effects of the unstable situation in Egypt, Tunisia, and Yemen on oil prices.

Boone pointed out that those three countries produce a million barrels of oil per day. If the unrest spreads west to the rest of oil-producing Africa or east to the Middle East “the total production which is at risk is 23 million barrels per day.”

Boone also noted that “two million barrels of oil a day go through the Suez Canal – most of it bound for Europe.”

The Suez canal connects the Red Sea with the Mediterranean.
Boone said “We have resources [including vast amounts of natural gas] in the US we should be using rather than running around saying ‘what in the hell is going to happen.’

“Our leadership should be looking for solutions which can begin today and not solutions for 2025. As an example,” Pickens said, “The President can order that all federal vehicles in the future should run on domestic resources – like batteries, natural gas, ethanol.”

Neil Cavuto asked if it was going to take prices rising sharply and staying very high “to force America to change.” Boone disagreed. He said he felt that more and more Americans are wondering “If we have resources why don’t we get on them.

“Natural gas is cleaner, cheaper, abundant and its ours,” he said.
