Army:

In 2010, our dependence on foreign oil cost us $337 billion to purchase 4.25 billion barrels of petroleum. That’s sending approximately $641,172 per minute to foreign countries, rather than keeping those dollars cycling in our economy.

I wish I could tell you that we’re done but that’s not the case – America still doesn’t have an energy plan, and oil is creeping back up to $100 per barrel. That means we’re on the way to an experience like Summer 2008 when Americans were paying $4, or more, at the pump.

President Obama is giving his State of the Union Address on January 25th. He’ll have a unique opportunity to outline specific steps we can take to leverage every American resource, from clean, domestic natural gas to fuel vehicles, to domestic nuclear power and renewables like wind and solar – to address our energy crisis.

Remember that President Obama pledged during his acceptance speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention: “And for the sake of our economy, our security, and the future of our planet, I will set a clear goal as president: In 10 years, we will finally end our dependence on oil from the Middle East.”

We now have less than 8 years left to make that commitment a reality and reverse decades of our growing foreign oil addiction.

I’ll be watching his speech and will give my thoughts to you and the media starting next Wednesday -keep an eye out.

P.S. 2011 is going to be a great year for America’s energy future. I hope you’ll send this message to three of your friends and ask them to join us-this is an issue of utmost importance to every American.
