On Sunday it was reported that BP had permanently plugged or “killed” the well which had blown out on April 20 and spilled some 4 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

On June 15, appearing on CNN’s Larry King Live, he was asked when the BP well would be finally killed.

Boone told Larry in mid-June:

“Everybody’s thinking it’s going to be August. I think it will be the middle of September.”

Larry asked Boone if it was going to get worse between June and September. Boone said,

BP will begin capturing more oil … they’re at about 15 – 20 thousands of barrels a day and hopefully they’ll get more than that. There’s probably 40 – 50 thousands of barrels coming out of that well right now.

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune engineers injected the last round of cement into the well on Friday and finished up on Saturday. Friday’s date was September 17th, so Boone missed his guess by only two days.
