Does the idea of filling up your car’s gas tank for less than a ten-spot sound appealing? Oklahoma legislators think so, which is why they are authorizing a $3,400 tax credit to encourage the purchase of the CNG-powered Honda GX.

According to radio station KOSU, the incentives are enough to make Oklahoma one of only four states nationwide where every Honda dealership sells CNG-powered vehicles.

Rep. Chris Benge, Speaker of the Oklahoma House, says compressed natural gas keeps Oklahoma as an energy leader in the nation:

“We believe that by developing an energy policy and using natural gas as a key component of that that it will position us to be a leader in the next century.”

Benge expects to see an increase in petroleum gas prices at the pump while CNG is running about a $1.39 a gallon in Oklahoma.
