When Boone took the microphone he moved on from where Mr. Kennedy had taken the discussion to the central point of the Pickens Plan – foreign oil.

Boone told the audience that he would be announcing on a monthly basis the amount of oil America imported in the previous month. For instance, in December, 2008 America imported 380 million barrels of oil accounting for 66.5 percent of the oil we used in December. Those 380 million barrels cost the United States $19.3 billion.

And that is in the depth of a dramatic economic downturn.

Boone told the audience, as he has before, that this is a problem for them, “because of my age. I’m 80-years-old.” He told them that while being a geologist he understands the problem, but “you are going to have to find the solutions.”
