An editorial in the Tulsa World strongly supports the passage of the NAT GAS Act (H.R. 1380). The editors single out U.S. Rep. John Sullivan (R-OK) who is the sponsor of the bill but, “unfortunately, he’s getting beaten up for it by elements of his own party.”

“For his effort to help make the U.S. energy independent, he has been attacked by the American Conservative Union, which formerly has given him high marks. The fact is, any politician who strays from this ultraconservative herd will get hammered.”

The World editors say that Sullivan and the other 183 bipartisan co-sponsors are “doing what’s right for the country.”

The NAT GAS Act provides a short-term, targeted, and financially limited set of tax incentives to offset the cost of replacing vehicles burning imported diesel with trucks running on domestic natural gas.

The editorial points out that H.R. 1380 would “be an economic boon for Oklahoma, which holds considerable reserves of natural gas.”

Congressman Sullivan “should be praised rather than punched,” the editorial concludes.
