As yet, I hear little from the talking heads about a backlash on gasoline prices. American politicians don’t respond to American needs unless they’re marching en masse on Washington. I’ll continue to lobby for passage of Boone’s plan, but I’m not optimistic.

Speaker Boehner doesn’t want to provide tax credits to build the natural gas infrastructure. He’s made that public on Fox.

(And, yes, his education initiatives have been in place and are getting some results albeit with a lot less notice and Republican heat – he really CAN do more than one thing at a time!)

We need to speak up now and not just sit and wait for gas prices to come back down. Cheap gasoline is the crack cocaine of this country! We need to accept the fact that we will not get off the gas if it’s at a painless sub-$3 per gallon. The price needs to be high enough to make alternative transportation energy – like natural gas, harvested without polluting our watertables – a reasonable and economically viable option.

After 40 years with no national energy direction, it may be that Boone has educated enough politicians of the necessity to embrace his proposal. Sure hope so as I think this won’t be the last time the “kings of oil” in the Gulf States call on us to do the heavy lifting in dictator states like Libya.
