Boone Pickens recently spoke to a meeting of editorial writers from around the nation in Dallas. One of those in attendance writes for the Wilmington (North Carolina) Star-News and published an editorial in support of the Pickens Plan.

His message isn’t “Drill, Baby, Drill” but “Try everything; do everything.” He’s partial to natural gas, which would pad his already substantial bottom line, but he also touts the development of renewable energy including nuclear, solar, wind, biomass and anything else that may arrive on the horizon. And oil, as long as it’s “friendly” oil.

The writer points out that North Carolina, because of its location on the Atlantic coast,

will be a key player in the push to identify energy sources to sustain us in the future. A new report from, yes, an environmental group suggests that the wind off our coastline could meet the state’s power needs with some left over, at a competitive price. It’s worth exploring

The editorial also mentions specifics from the Pickens Plan:

Methane from landfills, hog waste and even garbage itself are being used to create electricity. These efforts may be part of a solution that incorporates many sources. Natural gas also may become a widely available option for powering vehicles, especially those that now use diesel.
