Republic Services will add 226 natural gas vehicles to its fleet in 2010. A leader in the waste management industry, Republic operates and maintains one of the largest private fleets in the country and will support this major fleet upgrade by constructing compressed natural gas fueling stations at Gardena, Sun Valley, and Chula Vista, California, and Bellevue, Washington. The 226 natural gas vehicles will bring the total number of Republic’s alternative fuel vehicles to more than 459 vehicles.

“Dedicating 20 percent of our 2010 new truck orders to natural gas vehicles definitely makes a statement about our commitment to protecting the environment,” said Jeff Andrews, senior vice president West Region, Republic.

Using compressed natural gas helps lower harmful emissions like nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. The addition of the natural gas vehicles in California also assists in meeting the state’s “Diesel Risk Reduction Plan,” the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, and supports the efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions growth as established under state legislation.
