The president of NGVAmerica, Richard Kolodziej, testified on Capitol Hill this week in support of the NAT GAS Act (H.R. 1835 and S. 1408).

NGVAmerica is an association of more than 100 companies interested in the promotion and use of natural gas and biomethane as transportation fuels. Mr. Kolodziej, testifying before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, urged Senators to establish transportation policies that support natural gas as a transportation fuel, saying:

“Faster growth in the use of natural gas as a transportation fuel would provide increased energy security, cleaner air, less greenhouse gas emissions, and more U.S. jobs.”

Echoing Boone Pickens in his focus on over-the-road 18-wheelers, Mr. Kolodziej told the Senators,

“While there are many options to displace gasoline in light-duty vehicles, there are very few options to displace diesel in heavier vehicles. Of those options, natural gas can make the biggest impact fastest.”

He also talked about the value of the NAT GAS Act to all owners of fleets such as

“Trash trucks, transit buses, short-haul 18-wheelers [such as those used in ports], school buses, urban delivery vehicles, and shuttles of all kinds.”

He said that with support such as the NAT GAS Act, “NGVs could be displacing 10 billion gallons of diesel and gasoline within 15 years.”
