We need to REDUCE carbon emissions, not increase them. Natural Gas is NOT a renewable fuel, and it is not carbon free. Granted it does have less emissions than coal, but less isn’t good enough. According to an article October 2009 National Geographic for about $400 billion we could convert 80% of the nation’s electricity grid to solar, which is pocket change in the light of $800 billion bailouts and a $3 trillion budget. Solar energy alone can provide over 100 times the current energy needs of the planet. Rather than using something that we are going to run out of why not use our vast amounts of wind and solar power. The great planes provides one of the best wind resources of the world, yet we are reluctant to build wind farms because of the “it will spoil the view” argument. I will never understand why people are okay with having large smokestacks but not wind farms, yes they may be more of them but it’s not like they are ugly, and there are plenty of other towers that are used for various purposes that people don’t mind.
