I have the perfect vehicle to convert to natural gas, a Chevy s-10 (4 cyl) 5 speed truck. I called around and couldn’t find a conversion kit. I found one business that would convert it for $5,000 (They are in California and I’m in Nevada). No one in their right mind would convert a $10,000 vehicle to natural gas for $5,000. It is a 1998 and has only 33,000 miles on it, but the conversion still would not be worth it. It’s too bad that there isn’t a cheaper alternative. I would have considered it for $500.00 – $1,000.00. That’s why we have made such slow progress in this country. Every new idea is shot down due to cost constraints! TOO BAD, TOO!

OUTPUT. CHECK INTO IT.

What I have read about the current method is a disaster for waterways and animals. It would take huge quantities of water to get the gas to the surface. The water that would come back to the surface would be six times as salty as ocean water. Let me know if you have a gentler process.

I have been saying this for over a year now. The only reason the EPA certification is even invoved with the conversion is because of the money they reap by making every engine subject to their review and certification.
I have been told by people now doing these conversions that if the EPA was not involved, the conversion to natural gas would only cost a few hundred dollars instead of the thousands they have to charge to cover the imposed fees from the EPA.
I hope Boone will show some leadership by addressing this problem because without this being resolved, we as consumers, are again priced out of the market just like the “Hybrid” cars that cost as much as a small house.

However, the major remaining obstacle to CNG conversions for the average vehicle is the EPA certification which currently is required for a legal CNG conversion. The “justification” for this certification, which is very expensive and time consuming, is to ensure the exhaust system is not compromised and to ensure the exhaust gas is no more polluting than with gasoline. This is ludicrous at best, since, as we all know, CNG is far less polluting than gasoline.

The NAT Gas Act only provides for a “resolution” calling for streamlining of the EPA certification process. Much stronger language is needed to either allow for the conversion technician to certify the exhaust gas levels or eliminate the certification requirement altogether.

The technology is here now and we could use tax credits for home re-fueling systems until a infrastructure to dispense NG is built. Right now our cars WILL run on gas and NG with a flip of a switch. We have had this capability for years. This has to happen until we can develop something else. NG burns clean. I personally believe that the Nancy Pelosi types have too much riding on anything that is NOT a fossil fuel that they will block what is the easiest and most readily available fuel to use until we bridge the gap to other sources such as hydrogen. I am for one tired of hearing that switching to another fossil fuel will slow down development of alternatives. I want to stick it to the middle east like they are sticking it to us. I have 5 sons I and do not want to be in that region of the world except to protect our only true ally in the middle east,Israel.

I think it will grab their attention. It did for me. We need to be energy independent sooner rather than later. Thanks Boone and all the Picken’s Plan army for continuing to fight for this important cause. We can make a difference.
