T. Boone Pickens appeared on the HBO political program “Real Time with Bill Maher” to talk about the Pickens Plan and why it is important to America’s economic, environmental and security future.

Mr. Maher is a comedian and social critic. He started the conversation by telling the audience that Boone has been a life-long investor is oil and gas, but saying to Boone, “What you are selling is a … good thing to be selling and that is Wind.”

The audience wasn’t sure if Mr. Maher was teasing Boone or not, but Boone explained about why the Pickens Plan is so important. He walked through the decades of unkept promises by candidates about making America energy independent ending with Mr. Maher asking what percentage of oil we are importing now (about 67 percent over the past 12 months) and how much we spent last year (about $475 billion).

Mr. Maher got into politics and asked Boone if he had supported Sen. McCain. Boone said he had voted for him, but had not offered monetary or other support.

Boone: What I learned out of the past election is that John McCain and Boone Pickens are both too old to be President.

Maher: But you’re not too old to be a patriot. I think you’ll end up with a legacy you’ll be proud of and I thank you for doing this for America.
