Boone here, I’ve got an update on the progress of the stimulus package currently making its way through the U.S. Congress.

One bill has passed the U.S. House of Representatives and now another has passed the Senate.  Critical elements of the wind piece of the Pickens Plan are in one or both versions of the bill, which now goes to Conference to create a final version.

We need to make one final push on the stimulus package to ensure our pieces are included.

Click here to email your Members of Congress now and urge them to vote for final passage of H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Even if you already emailed your Senators last week, please send an email again today to ensure your U.S. Representative also receives the message.

In addition to supporting H.R. 1, please ask them to support inclusion in that bill of the House Department of Energy grant program, which is critically important to helping wind and solar energy grow through the economic downturn.  Also, ask your Members of Congress to support enactment of a strong national renewable electricity standard that meets President Obama’s goal of securing 25% renewable electricity by the year 2025.

Unfortunately the stimulus legislation still falls short of capitalizing on the potential of natural gas so we must continue our efforts to educate Congress on the benefits of natural gas in the coming months.  Only then can we reach our principal goal of reducing America’s dependence on foreign oil.  So stay tuned to the Pickens Plan – when Congress starts to develop energy legislation, we will need to tell them that they have a lot more to do to end our reliance upon foreign oil and get more natural gas trucks onto our roads.

In the meantime, please click here to email your Members of Congress about the wind elements of H.R. 1 today.

P.S. In 48 hours we will be delivering to the conferees a list of everyone who has emailed their Members of Congress in support of the Pickens Plan elements of H.R. 1.  So it’s important you email your Members of Congress today!
