The prestigious Franklin Institute in Philadelphia has announced its annual “Trailblazer” awards for leadership in science, business and technology. T. Boone Pickens was named in the area of business leadership. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper,

Perhaps the most recognizable among this year’s recipients is T. Boone Pickens, the Texas oilman who recently has become one of the nation’s most vocal champions for renewable energy.

According to the Franklin Institute’s website, Boone

The 2009 Bower Award for Business Leadership is presented to T. Boone Pickens for more than 50 years of creative and visionary leadership in energy production and delivery, and his recent focus on domestic renewable energy.

Pickens’ philanthropic leadership has contributed to advances in education, medical research, and wildlife conservation.
