T. Boone Pickens did his first Town Hall of 2009 in Houston at Rice University on Monday afternoon. It was sponsored by the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy.

Prior to the Town Hall, Boone met with about a dozen students who are specifically studying the issues surrounding energy policy. The questions were thoughtful, and Boone welcomed them saying that the Pickens Plan “is for you. I need you to challenge what I’m saying.”

The meeting itself was a sell-out with the 500-person hall pack to the walls. An overflow room was set up for those who couldn’t get in. During the Q & A the students – this being Houston and all – were very knowledgeable and the questions were more technical than usual, but Boone eagerly took and answered the students’ questions.

At the news conference (where the questions were far less technical) Boone suggested that the current price of oil is temporary and he expected oil to go back to $100 per barrel by the end of 2010. Boone then signed copies of his book, “The First Billion is the Hardest” answering questions, and chatting with the students for about an hour.

The Idaho State Journal has a story which focuses on a student at Idaho State University, Ryan Jones.

Jones has been a member of the New Energy Army. According to the newspaper, he signed up to be the Pickens Plan leader for the 2nd Congressional District in Idaho. The paper noted, “Some of those who have pledged to support the Pickens Plan include Pocatello Mayor Roger Chase, Rep. James Ruchti, D-Pocatello, and Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter.

Ryan has set a goal of signing up 500 new members of Boone’s Army.
