We shot some new ads today at the headquarters in Dallas. The debates between the Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates are coming up and we want everyone to pay close attention to what they say—or don’t say—about energy in general and the Pickens Plan in particular.

As you know I’ve sat down with both Senator Obama and Senator McCain and explained the situation. They’ve assured me they would think about the Pickens Plan, but as of yet neither has committed to supporting it.

On the other hand, we now have four Governors and 17 Members of Congress who have signed the Energy Independence Pledge, which will demand that the next Administration—whoever wins—sends a real Energy Plan to the Congress within the first 100 days.

Anyway, we have these debates and the Pickens Plan will run commercials just before and just after them. I won’t give away the store, but I’ll give you a little taste.

In the ad which will run before the debates, I ask you to “listen for a plan that actually reduces foreign oil. And remember, the only way to reduce imports is to use something other than foreign oil to run our cars and trucks.”

And in the ad which will run just after the debates, I remind you that “every President since Nixon has promised us energy independence, but we’ve just gone further into the ditch.”

So, we’re going to need everyone in the New Energy Army to sharpen their pencils and start getting all these folks thinking about how they’re going to join with us to get the Pickens Plan into the debate—not just the Presidential debate, but into every debate in every race, from school board (they have to pay to fuel the buses to get the kids to school) to United States Senator.

And by the way, here’s a photo of what the process of shooting the ads looks like:
