Speeches at the Democratic National Convention–although they are predictably highly partisan (as will be the speeches at the Republican Convention next week)–all have a thread which weaves through them: energy.

The convention speech of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was a call for energy independence. Senator Reid has it in his power, as Majority Leader, to focus the attention of the Senate on the energy issue starting on September 8 when the Congress returns from its August recess.

We should all take a moment and ask Senator Reid what he plans for the short three-week session by emailing his office. Ask him to consider using valuable time on the Senate floor to discuss the Pickens Plan.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s acceptance speech included this line: “Barack Obama will transform our economy by making alternative energy a genuine national priority, creating five million new jobs and finally freeing us from the grip of foreign oil.”

Senator Biden is not known as an energy hawk, but it is clear that the Obama campaign intends to use energy as an important issue. This is great news for the Pickens Plan Army!
